February 26, 2021

Information on Getting Vaccinated
Ages 65 and older now eligible
Seniors under 65 with pre-existing conditions can qualify
Our Vaccination Site Pick:
USA Health at Mobile Civic Center
Many Via Center members and Via staff have used this location to receive the 1st and 2nd dose of the Pfizer vaccine. We have found this clinic to work successfully. All USA staff and volunteers are courteous and professional, and you remain in your car for the vaccine and the post-shot monitoring period. We have found average time to get vaccinated is 90 minutes.

Getting an Appointment
Due to the recent inclement weather, there is some backlog. Typically, this site is doing 1,000 vaccines per day on week-days and 2,000 on Saturdays. Once you register, you will receive a series of e-mails for paperwork completion and appointment scheduling. The main thing is to register and get in the system!

You can have someone fill out the registration form on your behalf - there is an option to select this. If you need help, please reach out to us:

Rate of Vaccination Update

Statewide - Moving On Up!
Alabama has risen to seventh lowest in terms of the percent of population who received at least one dose, according to data from the CDC. At the beginning of February, Alabama ranked fourth from last in that category. But the state recently pulled ahead of Tennessee, Georgia and Rhode Island on giving out first doses. The data shows 9.1 percent of Alabama’s population had received at least their first dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Mobile County
In the beginning of February, the state cut the Mobile County Health Department's allotment of vaccines because private providers were receiving doses. As more people have become eligible, the rollout for vaccinations in our area remains slow. Public health officials state that citizens need to make appointments and complete paperwork so they will be ready. Citizens are receiving doses daily.

AARP Fraud Watch Network Warns About "Smishing"
Phishing (attempting to get your personal data) by SMS text messages is called “smishing.” You'll receive a text message appearing to be from a government agency, company or Covid testing entity. The text asks for information, such as a Social Security number or account passwords. Verify Before Clicking! Develop a habit of pausing before clicking on texts. Surveys show we are more likely to read and react to a text message than an email, which is why scammers have flocked to smishing. Don’t click on links from suspicious texts!
